Myopia, also known as near-sightedness or short-sightedness, is a refractive error where light that comes into the eye does not focus directly on the retina but in front of it. This is due to excessive refraction power or eyeball elongation. In both cases, the brain receives out of focus images and the patient in turn sees blurred images.
Difficulty seeing objects far away; the patient tends to bring distant objects closer in order to see them clearer. It is very typical for these patients to squint to be able to focus on distant objects.
Myopia can be corrected with glasses, contact lenses or refractive surgery in those cases where the patient does not want to use optical correction.
A variety of surgical techniques can be applied to correct myopia. In order to obtain the best results, a personalized examination is necessary to adapt the treatment to the specific characteristics of the patient’s eye.
Nowadays, the quicker and simpler procedures for myopia correction are those that alter the corneal surface using Excimer or femtosecond laser. To do so, we use the most reliable technology available in the ophthalmology sector (Tissue Saving, Wavefront Guided Laser…), which allows us to reduce any risks and optimize results.
If the patient has severe myopia or any other condition which is a contraindicatation to laser surgery, an intraocular lens with the refraction power needed can be implanted between the cornea and crystalline lens.

When using Excimer Laser, Wavefront TM system which reduces the risk of inducing higher-order aberrations can be applied.
If the patient cannot be treated using laser (due to severe myopia, excessively thin cornea...), myopia can be corrected using intraocular lens implant which, according to the characteristics of the patient’s eye, can be:
